An Ordinance to Provide Property Tax Relief for Qualifying Homeowners in St. Joseph Co.

Ordinance No. 138-23

Many longtime elderly residents of St. Joseph County have experienced significant increases in property tax liabilities or struggled with financial constraints. The Indiana legislature enacted code Section 6-1.1-49 as a new chapter to the Indiana Code, effective July 1, 2023, to allow a County fiscal body to provide for a Circuit Breaker Tax Credit to qualified individuals in a designated neighborhood enhancement district.
